Wedding photography is special and a privilege. It’s all about capturing those special moments, when Dad looks at his little girl all dressed in her wedding dress as he walks her down the aisle, Mum as her eyes fill with tears during the marriage ceremony, the look of pride on Gran’s face as her granddaughter is married, the little page-boy as he falls asleep during the church service. Not forgetting the laughter and emotion of the speeches, and yes even the photograph of Uncle Brian checking out the dance floor with his new disco moves. Wedding’s are a family celebration.
Bridal magazines, invite couples to send photographs of their special day for their ‘real life’ wedding section. However, they only want to show the details, the table plans, hand-made invitations, the chosen colour schemes, the bride’s dress, the favours. Real life weddings to a glossy bridal magazine is all about selling the magazine to future bride’s planning their day. These bride’s are looking for ideas, colour themes, dresses and cakes and they are not really interested in ‘true-life’ weddings. The real story of the day, IS, all about the love between a couple, the emotion and friendship between a couple and their family and friends. Not forgetting one of the most expensive and fabulous day’s of a couple’s life.
One of my jobs is to capture the details, the magnificent cake your Aunt created for you, the beautiful flowers, the special wedding shoes that your Gran paid for, the spectacular wedding venue you have chosen for your wedding day, the tables, decorations, the favours and the wedding breakfast room all pristine before it is trashed. But, my main photography job, and what really matters is the couple, the atmosphere, the emotion, laughter and the personalities of your family and friends. These are the moments and memories of your wedding day and they do that last a lifetime.
In years to come when you are the parents looking forward to your son or daughter’s wedding day, you will take out your wedding album, share the memories captured within, remember the family and friends who are sadly no longer with you, the guests who have separated, the little page-boy who fell asleep at the back of the church and your Mum, well she has become the special Gran in your children’s lives.
This is what your WEDDING day is all about, it’s about your family, your friends and one fabulous party to celebrate the day you were both married.
If you are reading this and planning your wedding day, close the magazines, log out of Pin Interest and Facebook, take a long look at the person you are getting married to and planning to spend the rest of your life with. Then, ask yourself what is really important to the two of you. Don’t worry about the weather, you can’t change it; don’t stress that your shoe’s are not quite a perfect match, of the fact that your best friend cannot attend your wedding. Don’t stress about anything. Remember, what really matters is that you are celebrating your wedding day with your close family and friends.
Wedding Photography that’s my job! My job is to capture all of it for you!
